Hardwood Styles

From farm-style dark wood floors to airy light wood, you’ll find a wide array of hardwood designs when you shop with us. Beginning with the wood species you choose, we offer a beautiful selection of popular options like hickory, maple, oak, mahogany, walnut, cherry, and beyond. Each has its own characteristic hardness levels and graining pattern. Some hardwood floors have more variation in color from plank to plank, while others vary in length and width. We also have extra wide hardwood floors, which are trendy right now, along with choices that have different gloss levels and textures.

Solid vs Engineered Hardwood

Solid hardwood features a simple construction and is the traditional choice. Each plank is one solid piece of premium wood, such as oak, hickory, or maple. The thickness of the plank can vary, but on average you can choose from ¾” or 5/16” thick options. Solid hardwood performs best when installed above or on-grade, and can even be sanded and refinished in order to extend its lifetime in your home. Engineered hardwood planks are made of multiple layers of composite wood with a genuine hardwood veneer at the surface. Engineered hardwood floors are better at handling moisture and foot traffic. While not considered waterproof, engineered hardwood can easily be wiped dry. It also tends to be more affordable. They can be installed above, on and below-grade so you can enjoy them on every level of your home, even finished basements.

Where Can Hardwood Be Installed?

Hardwood flooring is an incredibly popular and timeless flooring option, but it isn't the best choice for all settings. In fact, hardwood, even engineered hardwood, isn't suitable for kitchens, bathrooms, and other areas with moisture. Hardwood is, however, appropriate for home settings such as bedrooms and living rooms. There are even hardwood options that can handle moderately trafficked areas like hallways and stairs, and some engineered options can be installed in finished basements. We also have a waterproof hardwood collection called Hydrotek™, which is 100% moisture-protected and can be installed in kitchens and bathrooms.

"Carpet One is the best in flooring in our area. from Johns initial visit to our home to take measurements to the finished job, everyone involved was courteous, friendly and professional.  Over the years we have been pleased with the high quality of materials and the expertise in installing the flooring.  When wood parquet was recently installed, the men had to move heavy, large pieces of furniture...more than once.  They never complained.  Instead, we had laughs together." - Virginia York
